Ontario Native Fire Fighters Society Conference Concludes with Thrilling Fire Competition
Oneida was home to the Ontario Native Fire Fighters Society (ONFFS) Conference which wrapped up yesterday with a spectacular display of skill and teamwork during its annual fire competition. Held from July 24 to 26, the event brought together fire service professionals from across the province.
The conference, which focused on enhancing firefighting techniques and community safety, featured workshops, keynote speeches, and networking opportunities. Highlights included presentations from industry experts on the latest firefighting technology and strategies, as well as discussions on Indigenous approaches to fire management.
The conference culminated in an exciting fire competition where teams showcased their ability in a series of timed challenges. The competition, which is a favorite among attendees, tests participants’ skills in fire suppression, rescue operations, and equipment handling. Our own Oneida Fire Squad included Chief Todd Cornelius and our Oneida Volunteer Fire Fighters.
Fire Chief Glenn Hill praised the conference’s success. “This year’s conference has been incredible. It was inspiring to see so many dedicated fire fighters come together, share their knowledge, and push their skills to the limit in the competition. The camaraderie and spirit on display was truly remarkable.”
The ONFFS Conference not only highlighted the importance of continued professional development but also celebrated the rich traditions and contributions of communities to firefighting practices. The event concluded with a closing ceremony, where awards were presented to the top teams and participants.
Organizers are already looking forward to next year’s conference, aiming to build on this year’s successes and further strengthen the bonds within Ontario’s firefighting community.
