Overview

The Mental Health Program is a community based program that provides a range of mental health programs and services that address mental health promotion, education and counseling support. The program provides for a comprehensive approach using both western and holistic healing methods.

Mental Health Counsellor/helper Brenda Doherty hopes to meet the goals of a helper and to foster a confidential trusting place, for each person to:

  • To tell their own story;
  • To aid in the process of achieving balance of all four parts of being in our everyday life;
  • To collaborate to provide service for individuals by using best practice holistic approach; and,
  • To provide good role modelling focused on respect, kindness, caring, sharing, honesty, bravery, truth, wisdom, and humility and promotion of healthy lifestyles.

Mental Health Services include:

  • Individual, family and group counselling
  • Parent and youth counselling
  • Western and holistic healing approach
  • Case management
  • Counselling services to address relationships, depression, stress management, self-esteem
  • Referrals
  • Advocacy
  • Social skills
  • Crisis or trauma counselling support – Critical Incident Stress Management, Suicide Intervention
  • School presentations – i.e. anti-bullying

Support May Include:

  • Groups, programming and circles to address anti-bullying, self-esteem, life skills, sexual abuse, healthy sexuality, family violence, lateral violence
  • Empowerment of individuals and Advocacy support
  • Referrals to other services as necessary
  • Aftercare for addictions

One-on-One Counselling for:

  • Relationships with self, partners, and family
  • Post-traumatic stress
  • Stress management
  • Anger management
  • Grief
  • Depression
  • Addictions
  • Debriefing in crisis situations
  • Suicide intervention
